Deal Details

If Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara returned today, their famous conversation might be a little bit different:
Scarlett: “...where shall I go? What shall I do?”
Rhett: “Frankly, my dear, I...think you should visit Clayton County!”

Of course some may argue that Rhett and Scarlett are alive and well there already. You might just have a sighting (or at least see their almost life-size depictions in a mural) during the enjoyable and educational Southern Belles and Whistles Tour. You may not even know the connection between Gone With The Wind and Jonesboro, yet we’re confident you will once you take this truly fascinating tour.

When you visit the Official Home of Gone With The Wind and see The Road to Tara Museum, located in Jonesboro’s 1867 Historic Train Depot, you’ll find everything from original Hollywood memorabilia to the depot’s original Fairbanks Scale. As you continue on your tour, you’ll get to pass the intersection of Rhett and Scarlett Streets, the Old Jail/History Center, and Ashley Oaks Mansion.

Yet that’s not all! As part of this voyage to Jonesboro, you’ll tour the 1839 Stately Oaks Plantation, featuring costumed interpreters that will explain the history of the house, the ties with the famous book and Margaret Mitchell, and Jonesboro’s role in the Civil War. You’ll see period outbuildings including a one-room school and blacksmith shop, and you may even decide to relax under the oak trees or in a rocking chair. You’ll even get to visit an authentic 1896 country store, where you can pickup a locally-crafted item or souvenir of your visit.

Yes, there’s a world of history awaiting you in Clayton County. Take a step back in time and prepare to learn.
